Gujarat Titans (GT) have named Dasun Shanaka of Sri Lanka as a replacement for the injured Kane Williamson for the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.
On March 31, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was injured on the pitch while attempting a catch at the boundary during the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Sri Lanka's white-ball captain, Shanaka, is an explosive middle-order batter who also bowls right-arm seam, the franchise announced on Tuesday.
Shanaka smashed 124 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 187 and an average of 62.00 in the recent T20I series in India. In the subsequent ODI series, he was also Sri Lanka's leading run-scorer, scoring 121 runs in three innings.
Shanaka will play his first season in the IPL after signing for a base price of INR 50 lakh.
