The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signed England's Jason Roy for INR 2.8 crore for the remainder of the IPL 2023 season on Wednesday.
Roy has set his starting price at INR 1.5 crore. His signing comes after the two-time champions have lost key players for a variety of reasons.
Shreyas Iyer, the team's regular captain, has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL season due to back surgery in London, and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has opted out.
Roy, 32, has previously played for four IPL teams: KKR, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Lions, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. His most recent appearance in the league was for the Sunrisers in the 2021 season, when he scored 150 runs in five games, including a half-century.
The English opener has appeared in 64 Twenty20 Internationals for his country, scoring 1522 runs at a strike rate of 137.61 with eight fifties.
On the other hand Punjab Kings (PBKS) have signed Gurnoor Sing Brar for INR 20 lakhs on Wednesday to replace injured Raj Angad Bawa in the ongoing IPL 2023 season.
Bawa, who appeared in two games for PBKS last season, is out with a left shoulder injury.
Gurnoor, a left-handed batting all-rounder who replaced him, made his first-class debut for Punjab in December 2022.
He has appeared in five first-class matches, scoring 107 runs at a S/R of 120.22 and taking seven wickets at an economy of 3.80.
After defeating KKR in their season opener, Punjab Kings will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their second match on Wednesday evening at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Assam.
