The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced strict sanctions for players and franchises in the Indian Premier League 2022 if they are found guilty of breaching the bio-bubbles.
'The COVID-19 pandemic poses a serious threat to the health of individuals and the cooperation, commitment and adherence by each Person Subject To These Operational Rules to the measure put in place to provide a safe environment is of paramount importance,' the BCCI said in its operational rules for the IPL 2022.
A hefty fine of INR 1 crore will be imposed on any franchise that allows any outsider who has not served the mandatory quarantine to enter the bio-bubble. Additionally, two points will be deducted if franchises allow this to happen more than twice.
If a player or match official breaches the bubble for the first time, he will have to undergo self-isolation for seven days. At the second offence, a one-match suspension, along with seven days of quarantine, will be imposed. If found guilty again, his name will be struck off for an entire season, and no replacement will be allowed for the franchise.
If a franchise is unable to field a playing XI due to Covid-19 cases, the board will attempt to reschedule the match.
