In a stunning display of batting prowess, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav of the Mumbai Indians led their team to a thrilling six-wicket victory over Punjab Kings on Wednesday at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium.
After losing their captain Rohit Sharma early on, Kishan and Cameron Green set about rebuilding the Mumbai innings. Kishan was particularly impressive, hitting two consecutive boundaries through the off-side and following it up with two big sixes.
As Green was dismissed by Nathan Ellis, Suryakumar took over the reins and went on a rampage, hitting a flurry of fours and sixes. Kishan was not to be outdone and continued his rampage, hitting a mammoth six over deep mid-wicket.
The partnership between Kishan and Suryakumar yielded a massive 116 runs for the third wicket, putting Mumbai in a commanding position. Though they fell towards the end of the chase, Tilak Varma and Tim David kept the momentum going to complete the chase with seven balls to spare.
The win takes Mumbai past Punjab to be at sixth position in the points table, with ten points to their name. This was a remarkable comeback by the Mumbai Indians, who had a rocky start to the tournament. With Kishan and Suryakumar in such fine form, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming matches.
