Ravindra Jadeja has stepped down as Chennai Super Kings captain with immediate effect. In eight games under Jadeja's captaincy, Chennai have lost six matches this season and won just two. Jadeja's own form has taken a hit, as he has struggled with both bat and ball.
'Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK,' said a statement from Chennai Super Kings. 'Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest & to allow Jadeja to focus on his game'.
Jadeja has so far managed just 112 runs and taken five wickets in eight matches. Before this IPL season, he had never led in senior cricket.
'In an ideal world, till 2020, it was Raina who was always the natural successor to Dhoni having lead whenever he has been injured. But when he lost form and was released, CSK didn't have a second line of leadership ready,' an IPL insider told PTI.
