Jofra Archer has been forced out of action from all cricket for the rest of the year, as confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board. He will miss the upcoming T20 World Cup, staging in Oman and the UAE, the remainder of the IPL, and the Ashes in Australia with a stress fracture in his right elbow.
‘Jofra Archer underwent further scans on his injured right elbow last week. The scans revealed that he has suffered a recurrence of a stress fracture of his right elbow,’ said the ECB. ‘In response to these findings, he has been ruled out for the rest of the year and will miss the current Test series against India, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and the Ashes series in Australia.’
Archer’s stress fracture was first discovered in early 2020. Since then, he has played six Tests, three ODIs and 11 T20Is for England. He had an operation to remove a bone fragment from his right elbow in May, and then returned to play for Sussex last month.
But again, he felt further discomfort during their Vitality T20 Blast fixture against Kent, which forced him to rule himself out from the two-match Test series against New Zealand. He was initially not in England’s ongoing Test squad against India either.
Archer is now taking an extended break from all cricket. His injury will be reviewed by the ECB’s medical team in the autumn.
