Jos Buttler, prominent wicketkeeper-batsman, was named the new white-ball captain of England on Thursday. Eoin Morgan, the World Cup-winning captain, is replaced by the 31-year-old Buttler, who this week announced his retirement from international cricket due to injuries and poor form.

The batter, who has been a vice-captain since 2015 and has previously captained the squad 14 times, has played a crucial role in the setup (Nine ODIs & five T20Is). In 151 ODI appearances for England, he has amassed 4,120 runs at an average of 41.20, including 10 centuries.

The T20I series against India, which begins on July 7 at the Ageas Bowl and for which England is expected to announce their team on Friday at noon, will be his first responsibility as captain. After that match, there would be 12 limited-overs matches in 25 days, including three T20Is and three ODIs against South Africa and India before the end of July.

However, England's defence of their 50-over title is not far away: the next ODI World Cup is scheduled for October-November 2023 in India, and another T20 World Cup will be held in the Caribbean and the United States in 2024. Buttler will be primarily focused on the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year while working with new white-ball coach Matthew Mott.

Buttler was nominated for the position by Rob Key, England's managing director of men's cricket, and his appointment was approved on Wednesday night by Clare Connor, the ECB's chief executive, and interim chair Martin Darlow.

"Being your country's captain is the highest honour, and whenever I've had the chance to do it in the past, I've cherished it. I'm eager to lead this squad forward "On being named captain, Buttler stated.

The attacking hitter has 88 caps in T20 internationals, scoring 2,140 runs at an average of 34.51. He , Heather Knight and Dawid Malan are the only English cricketers to have scored hundreds in each of the game's three formats.
