Sunrisers Hyderabad finally recorded their second victory of the season by beating Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets and broke their five-match losing streak. Jason Roy played the first match of the season and delivered with a match-winning knock during the chase. Rajasthan Royals again failed to post a competitive total as Sanju Samson played another lone hand.
Samson won the toss and decided to bat first. Evin Lewis and Chris Morris returned after the break in the last match but they lost Kartik Tyagi for injury and Jaydev Unadkat replaced him. For Hyderabad, the big news was the exclusion of David Warner. Warner, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadav and Khaleel Ahmed were replaced by Roy, Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma, and Siddharth Kaul.
Like their previous match, Rajasthan again lost an early wicket as Evin Lewis was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second over. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Samson built an important partnership and added 56 runs for the second wicket in a quick time before Jaiswal was dismissed off Sandeep Sharma.
Liam Livingstone failed again as he was holed out in the deep off Rashid Khan. Samson and Mahipal Lomror rebuilt the innings and batted together till 20th over. Samson scored his second half-century after the resumption of IPL 2021 and scored 82 off 57 with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Lomror could not accelerate much as Jason Holder and Rashid Khan kept building the pressure. There were quite a few catches missed by the Hyderabad fielders but a brilliant last over from Kaul ensured that they could restrict SRH for 164/5.
Jason Roy opened with Wriddhiman Saha and the latter started the hitting from the first over. He raced to 18 off 10 deliveries as Roy took some time to get set. However, Roy soon found his touch and hit 5 boundaries in the fourth and fifth over bowled by Mustafizur Rahman and Chris Morris respectively. Sunrisers Hyderabad reached 57 for no loss in the first 5 overs and looked set for a successful chase.
Samson brought the spinner in the sixth over and immediately Lomror got success as Saha missed his first delivery and was stumped by Samson. Kane Williamson joined Roy and the duo batted fluently without much pressure. They added 57 runs for the second wicket. After scoring 50 off 36 balls Roy was eventually dismissed for 60 by Chetan Sakariya as he aimed for an adventurous shot. Rajasthan Royals got another wicket in the next over when Mustafizur got a sharp return catch to dismiss Priyam Garg first ball.
That was the last bit of success for the Royals. Later Abhishek Sharma kept his nerve and added unbeaten 48 runs with Williamson to take Sunrisers Hyderabad to victory in the 19 th over. Williamson reached his fifty and remained unbeaten for 51 whereas Abhishek finished the match on 21. Their positions remain the same after the match i.e Rajasthan Royals in sixth and Sunrisers Hyderabad in eighth place.
