West Indies limited-overs captain Kieron Pollard announced retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a 15-year-long career that started with an ODI against South Africa in 2007. Pollard is currently with Mumbai Indians for Indian Premier League 2022.
'As I move on and make room for those who will carry the game forward in West Indies colours, know that I will always be supporting in whatever way I can. It is with profound gratitude for living my dream that I now raise my bat in salute to all that is West Indies cricket,' Pollard said on Instagram.
Pollard's last appearance for the West Indies came a few weeks ago, in the T20I series against India. He scored 2,706 runs and took 55 wickets in 123 ODIs, and 1,569 runs and 42 wickets in 101 T20Is. He was part of the West Indian sides that won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. In 2021, he hit Akila Dananjaya for six sixes in an over, becoming only the third batter in international cricket to achieve the feat.
Pollard, however, will continue to play franchise level T20s, including IPL, where he plays for Mumbai Indians, and the Caribbean Premier League, where he leads Trinbago Knight Riders.
