The second T20I between India and Sri Lanka, originally slated to be held on 27 July, has been postponed after Krunal Pandya tested positive for the COVID-19. The match is likely to be played on Wednesday (28 July), but only if others in close contact with Pandya returns negative for the virus.
As per a report in Outlook India, as many as eight players, including Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw, were in close proximity with Pandya. All these players have already been placed under self-isolation for now, and they will be under observation of the health officials.
This will also affect India’s plan to bring in Suryakumar and Shaw as injury replacement for the Test series against England. Both players were supposed to depart to the UK to join the Virat Kohli’s side.
Earlier, the series was delayed after Sri Lankan batting coach Grant Flower tested positive. India have already won the ODI series by 2-1 and are currently leading the T20I series by 1-0. They defeated Sri Lanka by 38 runs in the first T20I.
The BCCI has released the new schedule, as per which the last two T20Is will be conducted on 28th and 29th July respectively.
