Kusal Perera is set to miss both the ODI and the T20I series against India after suffering a shoulder injury during training. With Niroshan Dickwella already under suspension for bio-bubble breaches, Sri Lanka are short on options for the first-choice wicketkeeper.
Perera led the Sri Lankan side that failed to win a single game on their recent tour of England. They lost the T20Is 0-3 and the ODIs 0-2.
Sri Lanka Cricket then replaced Perera with Dasun Shanaka as limited-overs captain. Shanaka is the sixth man in less than four years to lead the team. He once captained Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series versus Pakistan in 2019.
Apart from Perera, Binura Fernando is another player to be ruled out of the ODI series. He is out due to a lateral ligament sprain.
Starting 18 July, India and Sri Lanka will play three ODIs and as many T20Is. With the main team away in England, India have appointed Shikhar Dhawan as captain, Bhuvneshwar Kumar as vice-captain, and Rahul Dravid as head coach.
