When Arjun Tendulkar got a hundred for Goa against Rajasthan in a Group C match played here on Wednesday, he imitated his famed father Sachin Tendulkar by smashing a century in his Ranji Trophy debut.
On the second day of the game against Rajasthan being played at the Goa Cricket Association Academy ground here, the 23-year-old Arjun entered the batting order at the fall of the fifth wicket.
On December 11, 1988, in Wankhede, Sachin Tendulkar, playing for Bombay (now known as Mumbai), against Gujarat, imitated his celebrated father by scoring 100 runs unbeaten. At the age of 15 years and 232 days, he became the youngest Indian to make a century on first first-class cricket outing.
Having reached the three-figure mark with a cool-headed performance, Arjun Tendulkar, who was batting on four at the time of stumps on the first day of the game on Tuesday, was eventually caught by Kamlesh Nagarkoti off his own bowling for 120. During his innings, he faced 207 deliveries and hit 16 fours and two sixes.
At the time of reporting, he and Suyash Prabhudessai (batting on 187) had a run partnership of 221 runs for the sixth wicket. Tendulkar and Prabhudessai each scored 120 runs in the 221-run partnership off 374 balls. The 144th over saw Goa at 422/6 when Arjun Tendulkar was struck out.
Arjun Tendulkar, who formerly played for Mumbai in youth cricket, changed his affiliation to Goa earlier this year.
