David Miller, the Proteas' temporary T20I captain, is looking forward to the task of leading South Africa in the three-match series against England that gets underway on Wednesday in Bristol.
The visitors play the hosts twice in quick succession, first at the Seat Unique Stadium on Tuesday and again on Thursday in Cardiff. On Sunday, the series will come to an end in Hampshire.
In the absence of the injured Temba Bavuma, star batter Miller is leading the visitors and is anticipating a successful performance against the English.
He added at a pre-series press conference, "I have captained a few times in my career so far, and what I have learned is that things do get a little bit chaotic and frantic out there. "All you have to do is have your plans in place clearly and maintain as much composure as you can.
I've already done some preparation and am hopeful that I will be well-prepared for tomorrow's games.
Following the last game's cancellation due to rain, the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series between the two teams was concluded on Sunday with a score of 1-1.
Miller has taken over as team captain for this series after Keshav Maharaj did so for that series. Although the stand-in captain acknowledged that Bavuma's absence was not ideal, he believed it gave other players who had excelled at home the chance to stake a claim in the national lineup.
When there are injuries and other things, it does become extremely difficult, Miller added. "But it's a part of the game, and we've put together a squad that we feel quite comfortable with right now over the previous year or year and a half.
Temba's absence doesn't really help, but it does allow us to get a better look at other players around the nation as the World Cup approaches.
Rilee Rossouw, Tristan Stubbs, and Gerald Coetzee, three batsmen who are relatively fresh to this series, are some of the others.
In the meantime, England has been adjusting to life with a new captain since Jos Buttler took over when Eoin Morgan retired.
Miller acknowledged that the hosts would be a difficult test, but he was optimistic that the South Africans would be ready.
The England team has advanced significantly over the past few years, he continued. They are a tough team, and Jos has performed admirably on the international circuits while playing frequently for Eoin Morgan. He has extensive experience, has travelled much, and plays in the IPL.
So yes, I do believe they are a serious team. But we also have a serious team to oppose that. It's going to be a good series, in my opinion.
