The Lucknow-based IPL team will be known as Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise confirmed the update on Twitter. Along with Ahmedabad, the Super Giants are one of the two new teams to participate in the forthcoming edition of the tournament.

The team was bought by R.P. Sanjiv Goenka Group for INR 7,090 crore, and the name was chosen by a contest, titled Naam Banao Naam Kamao.

'Thank you so much for your overwhelming response to the ‘Naam banao naam kamao’ contest. Lakhs and lakhs of people responded, based on that we are very happy to choose the name for the Lucknow IPL team,” said Goenka.

Lucknow Super Giants have named K.L. Rahul as the captain, and have acquired Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi. They will have a budget of INR 59 crores in the mega auction, scheduled to take place next month.
