Mark Wood has been ruled out of the third Test match due to a shoulder injury. Wood got injured while attempting to save a boundary on Day 4 of the second Test. He bowled four overs the next day, even touching the 90mph mark, but was deemed unfit for the Headingley Test by the medical team at Leeds.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided against a replacement. Saqib Mahmood may get an opportunity to make his Test debut, while Craig Overton will also be in the scheme of things. James Anderson and Ollie Robinson will spearhead the pace attack.
Wood picked up five wickets in the last game. He has joined a long list of English pacers, who have been ruled out of the series. They was already without Stuart Broad, Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes, and Ben Stokes – though Woakes may return at some point in this series.
The third Test will be played from 25 August at Headingley in Leeds. India currently lead the series by 1-0 after winning the second Test by 151 runs.
