Birmingham Phoenix clinched their first away win in the Men’s Hundred, beating Trent Rockets by 16 runs, in Match 27 of the competition, at Trent Bridge. With this, Phoenix pipped Southern Brave to reclaim the top spot of the points table. They have now won five out of seven games.
Batting first, Liam Livingstone (50 in 31 balls) and Miles Hammond (38* in 20) helped Phoenix reach 166/6. Finn Allen (29 in 22) also chipped in with a useful contribution at the top. Samuel Cook was the pick of the Rockets bowlers, with 2-32.
Coming to chase, Rockets lost their top three – D’Arcy Short (6), Alex Hales (13) and Dawid Malan – inside the Powerplay. Debutant Dillon Pennington (2-11) did the most damage in this period to send Rockets on the backfoot early.
Despite wickets falling regularly around him, Steven Mullaney kept the Rockets in the contest. He hit two fours and three sixes in his 33-ball 49 before Patrick Brown (3-27) dismissed him on the 88thball to shatter their hopes. Rockets finished on 150/9.
