A quickfire 46 not out from Samit Patel and magnificent death bowling from Wahab Riaz (4-30) helped Trent Rockets beat Welsh Fire by six wickets, in Match 20 of the Men’s Hundred, in Cardiff.
Chasing 140, Samit hit a four and five sixes in his 20-ball stay and guided the Rockets wrap up the win with 10 balls to spare. Alex Hales (26), Dawid Malan (20) and Lewis Gregory (22*) also chipped in with useful contributions to take their side at the top of the table, with four wins in five matches. Qais Ahmad was the pick of the Fire bowlers, with 2-23.
Earlier, Glenn Phillips (50) and Leus du Plooy (30) had forged a 72-run stand for the fourth wicket to help Fire reach 125 in 86 balls after Gregory won the toss and asked them to bat. But the Rockets bowlers, led by Riaz, took five wickets in the last 14 balls and conceded just 14 to restrict the Fire to 139/8.
