Let us take a look at the highlights of Match 30 of the inaugural edition of Men’s Hundred that took place on 16 August.
Southern Brave v Oval Invincibles, Southampton
Oval Invincibles 134/7 in 100 balls (Blake 44*; Lintott 3-14) lost to Southern Brave 135/4 in 95 balls (de Grandhomme 40*; Curran 1-8) by 6 wickets with 5 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Alex Davies.
Southern Brave secured their place in the knockouts of the Men’s Hundred, and eliminated Oval Invincibles with a thrilling six-wicket win in Match 30 of the season, in Southampton.
Brave became the last team to qualify for the latter stages, after Birmingham Phoenix and Trent Rockets. However, none of them has guaranteed a place in the final yet.
Chasing 135 in a must-win contest, Brave lost both Quinton de Kock (9) and Paul Stirling (2) early. They were left reeling on 68/4. Colin de Grandhomme (40* in 28 balls) and Alex Davies (40* in 29) came to the rescue, adding an unbroken 67-run fourth-wicket stand to take their side home with five balls to spare.
Earlier, Will Jacks (39 in 13) got the Originals off to a blistering start after being put in. But losing six wickets for 33 runs in the middle of the innings did not allow them to carry the momentum. Jake Lintott (3-14) did the most damage for Brave during this period. Coming at No. 7, Alex Blake then hit two fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 28-ball 44 to help Originals post a respectable 134/7, which was not enough.
