Dawid Malan’s 52 guided Trent Rockets to their fifth win of the season as they chased down 136 runs with seven wickets and five balls to spare. The Rockets have now qualified for the Playoffs.
Carlos Brathwaite won the toss and decided to bat. Phil Salt struggled to get going, and made 15 off 13 before being undone by Rashid Khan. His partner Joe Clarke was at his fluent best, hitting five fours before Samit Patel knocked his stumps. Rashid then got Colin Ackermann and Brathwaite to reduce the Originals to 75/5.
Colin Munro made a quickfire 45 but fell to the 66th ball. The Originals could only manage 37 runs next 34 balls. Rashid was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3-16.
Malan and Alex Hales got the Rockets off a steady start, adding 50 for the opening stand. While Hales fell for 19, the low target allowed Malan to keep going at his own pace. He made 52 in 46 balls. Patel’s 23-ball 35 then guided the Rockets across the target.
