Jason Roy’s whirlwind half-century helped Oval Invincibles register their third victory of the competition after the match was reduced to 65-balls-per-side due to persistent drizzles. They defeated Trent Rockets by nine runs.
Put into bat, Roy got the Invincibles off a rollicking start, but the wickets kept falling at the other end. Barring the openers, none of the batters could even reach the double digits. But Roy remained unperturbed and carried on with his assault, making 56 not out off 29 balls to take his team to 125/6 in 65 balls.
For Trent Rockets, Samt Patel claimed two wickets. Rashid Khan, Matthew Carter, Samuel Cook, Timm van der Gugten picked a wicket apiece.
Chasing 126, the Rockets lost D’Arcy Short on the third ball. He fell for a duck. Dawid Malan’s innings never took off, while Alex Hales’ (25 off 15) quickfire knock came to an abrupt end after getting beaten through the gate by Sunil Narine.
Skipper Lewis Gregory and Rashid Khan tried to revive the chase. Gregory remained unbeaten on 28, while Rashid struck timely sixes to bring the Rockets back in the game. But Tom Curran got rid of Rashid on the 61st ball, and Trent Rockets could fell nine runs short of the target.
