Let us take a look at the highlights of Match 26 of the inaugural edition of Men’s Hundred that took place on 12 August.
Northern Superchargers v Manchester Originals, Headingley
Northern Superchargers 200/5 in 100 balls (Simpson 71*; Ferguson 2-37) beat Manchester Originals 131 in 99 balls (Brathwaite 21; Raine 3-15) by 69 runs. Player of the Match: John Simpson.
Northern Superchargers became the first team in the Men’s edition to rack up 200 in Match 26 of the competition against Manchester Originals, at Headingley.
John Simpson smashed 11 fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 28-ball 71 to make this happen, as Superchargers piled 200/5 after being put in. He and Dane Vilas (36 in 31) added 90 for the fifth wicket. Had the Originals not dropped four catches in crucial stages, the scenario could have been different.
Steven Finn (2-51) became the first player in the competition to concede more than 50 in an innings – that too off just 15 balls. Lockie Ferguson returned 2-37 and Colin Ackermann 1-17.
The chase was never on the cards for the Originals, as wickets kept falling in regular intervals throughout their innings. Apart from Carlos Brathwaite (21 in 14), no batter scored in excess of 20 before they were bowled out for 131 off 99 balls.
Ben Raine was the pick of the Superchargers bowlers, with 3-15, while Adil Rashid (2-28) and David Willey (2-25) got two wickets each.
