Trent Rockets beat London Spirit by seven runs in Match 10 of the Men’s Hundred to maintain their 100 percent winning record in the campaign, in front of 23,892 fans at Lord’s.
Rockets stuttered to 123/4 after being asked to bat. Coming to open, D’Arcy Short (69* in 47 balls) remained till the end to guide his team to this total, despite not getting much support from the other end. Spirit bowled economically, especially Mason Crane (1-16) and Mohammad Nabi (2-20).
Coming to chase, Spirit were left reeling at 48/5, and then 93/8. But an unbeaten 23-run ninth-wicket stand between Blake Cullen (15*) and Roelof van der Merwe (25*) kept them in the contest. They needed nine from the last three balls to win the match, against Marchant de Lange.
De Lange conceded a single from the first ball before bowling successive dots to seal the game for the Rockets in this low-scoring thriller.
