David Willey starred with both bat and ball to help Northern Superchargers to a crushing 63-run win over London Spirit, in Match 17 of the Men’s Hundred, at Lord’s.
Willey smashed three fours and six sixes in an unbeaten 45-ball 81, the highest individual score so far in the Men’s edition, to propel the Superchargers to 155/3 after they opted to bat. He shared an unbroken 65-run stand with Dane Vilas for the fifth wicket, where the latter contributed with 22.
Coming to defend, Willey (2-9) again led from the front. He took two wickets in the first 10 balls to give Superchargers an early advantage. Unable to recover from there, the Spirit struggled to reach 92/9. Eoin Morgan top-scored in this total, with 27 off 22 balls.
Willey was ably supported by Ben Raine (3-20), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2-6) and Adil Rashid (2-24) to help the Superchargers their second win of the campaign. The Spirit, on the other hand, remained winless after five games.
