Southern Brave vs Welsh Fire, Southampton
Welsh Fire 144/5 in 100 balls (Banton 36; Briggs 2-17) lost to Southern Brave 147/2 in 87 balls (De Kock 57*; Fletcher 1-24) by 8 wickets with 13 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Quinton de Kock.
An 86-run second-wicket stand between Quinton de Kock (57* in 33 balls) and James Vince (53 in 39) led Southern Brave to an easy eight-wicket win over Welsh Fire in Match 25 of the Women’s Hundred, in Southampton. The defeat also eliminated Fire, who have managed two wins from seven matches so far, from the contest.
Chasing 145, de Kock and Vince made fluent fifties to keep the chase under Brave’s control before Alex Davies (18* in 9) finished things off with 13 balls to spare. Luke Fletcher (1-24) and Qais Ahmad (1-33) claimed a wicket each.
Earlier, Tom Banton (36 in 20) had got Fire off to a blistering start after Vince won the toss and asked them to bat. Ian Cockbain (26), Glenn Phillips (30) and Leus du Plooy (30) also chipped in with useful contributions to finish on 144/5, but that did not turn out to be challenging for Brave. Danny Briggs (2-17) bowled tightly for his two wickets.
