Moeen Ali propelled Birmingham Phoenix to a thrilling six-wicket win in a record chase over Oval Invincibles, in Match 18 of the Men’s Hundred, at Edgbaston.
Needing 173 to win, the highest chase of the Men’s edition so far, Moeen hit three fours and four sixes in his fiery 26-ball 49 to help his side climb at the top of the table. Will Smeed (45 off 28 balls), Chris Benjamin (37* off 16) and Finn Allen (23 off 9) all chipped in with useful contributions to reach the target with six balls to spare.
Earlier, Colin Ingram smashed 81 not out off 43, the joint-highest individual score in the Men’s edition, to take the Invincibles to 172/3 after Moeen won the toss and asked them to bat. Patrick Brown picked up two wickets for the Phoenix, conceding 28.
