For the remainder of the 2022 English domestic season, which includes the County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup, county club Middlesex confirmed on Monday that they have hired India pacer Umesh Yadav.
Yadav, 34, has participated in 52 Tests, 77 ODIs, and 7 T20Is for India, taking 156, 106, and nine wickets in those contests, respectively. He joins all-rounders Washington Sundar (Lancashire), Krunal Pandya, and batsman Cheteshwar Pujara as the fourth Indian to play in the current English domestic cricket season (Warwickshire).
"Since Shaheen left for Pakistan before the Blast season began, we have been searching for the ideal player to take his place. Having an international bowler with us for the entire season was always our objective. Yadav fits the bill."
Alan Coleman, Head of Men's Performance Cricket at Middlesex, said of the player, "He comes to us with a wealth of experience, he is a proven world-class performer, and he can not only make a huge difference himself for the remainder of our Championship campaign and to our prospects in the Royal London Cup but will also be a fantastic role model for our younger bowlers to work alongside."
Yadav wasn't initially included in the Middlesex team for this week's match against Worcestershire at Merchant Taylors' School because the club held off on announcing his presence until learning that his visa had been accepted.
Yadav has been added to Middlesex's squad for this week's match as a result of Middlesex receiving confirmation on Monday morning that he is now registered with the ECB.
For the remainder of the season, Yadav will be able to contribute significantly to Middlesex's County Championship and Royal London Cup campaigns because he will play for the team in both First-Class and List-A forms. He was a member of India's squad for the postponed fifth Test match against England at Edgbaston, however he was not included in the starting lineup.
"He has a lot to offer as a bowler. He bowls from outside the crease, has a deadly short ball, frequently hits 140 kph, and can move the ball both ways. In English conditions, he will be a genuine nuisance for opposing hitters. We are happy to welcome Umesh to Middlesex and wish him the best of luck while he is a member of the club "Coleman came to an end.
