Mithali Raj has become the first to score 7000 One Day International runs in women’s cricket. The 38-year crossed the milestone during the 4th ODI vs South Africa.
India’s ODI captain achieved the feat in her 213th ODI game. Having made her debut in 1999, Mithali is the longest playing women’s cricketer to date. Despite such a long career, she averages 50 plus in ODI cricket.
Mithali had completed 10,000 international runs and had become only the second in women’s cricket after Charlotte Edwards to do the same during the third ODI against South Africa women.
While she leads the One Day tally for runs in women’s cricket, the Indian skipper is behind Charlotte Edwards when it comes to overall international runs who has scored 10,273 runs to her name.
India women currently trail to South Africa women in the five match series by 2-1 and need to win the fourth ODI to stay in contention for the series win.
