Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bowl. They made two changes, while Delhi welcomed back Prithvi Shaw. Some pre-match rain added to the drama and made Bangalore fans happy. However, a full game of cricket could be played eventually.
Delhi lost three wickets inside the Powerplay. Daniel Sams gave the first breakthrough, while Bumrah got the other two. At 31/3, Delhi’s hopes of getting a good start went in vain. Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell then added 75 before Ramandeep Singh struck. Then Ramandeep bowled a nine-ball over, including three wides, in which he conceded 19 runs but got Rishabh Pant.
Bumrah then claimed Rovman Powell for a 34-ball 43, and finished with 4-0-25-3. Delhi eventually finished on 159/7.
Mumbai Indians 160/5 in 19.1 overs
Mumbai lost captain Rohit Sharma for a 13-ball two, but his opening partner Ishan Kishan made 48 in 35 balls as the middle-order. Dewald Brevis added 37 in 33 balls, while Tilak Verma scored 21 in 17. However, it was David's cameo that made all the difference.
There was an appeal for caught behind for the first ball David faced, but Shardul Thakur, the bowler, was not convinced. The umpire turned down the appeal, and Delhi did not review the decision. Ultraedge later confirmed a fair dismissal. David never looked back. He started smashing immediately and scored 34 in 11 balls, with four sixes and two fours.
Even after David fell, it was a matter of time for Mumbai won the match. They lost Verma in the next over, but Ramandeep secured the victory with a four in the final over.
