Afghanistan player Gulbadin Naib who led the national team during the ICC World Cup this year in England has accused a few players of underperforming in the edition and has also accused the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) of corruption and misconducts.
In a series of tweets, Naib, who was removed from captaincy soon after the edition, threatened to expose all the players and the administrators if appropriate action is not taken. Asghar Afghan was controversially sacked as the skipper of Afghanistan just a month before the World Cup, following which Naib was appointed. After the team failed to win a single game in the edition, 20-year old spinner Rashid Khan was named the captain of the side across formats. However, yesterday, the ACB reinstated Afghan as the leader across all formats.
Naib has stated that a few players underperformed under him in the World Cup in protest after he was made in charge of the side.
“My dear Afghans, the main reason why I went public is not that I have a personal grudge against player or the board. I am going to reveal every person’s identity involved in corruption and other misconducts and betrayals against our Nation cricket and its ppl,” tweeted Naib starting a series of tweets.
“I know most of you may ask why have I not spoken publicly against these ppl/mafia circle before. I have been sidelined and promised, by the authorities and other stakeholders that they will sort the mess in the cricket team and promised immediate changes & banning of this circle,” Naib tweeted.
“Has anything been done about such betrayal? For public interest, if D authorities don’t take appropriate actions, I will publicly name & shame every single one from gov officials to board members, players and ex-board and management members. Stay tuned… long life my beloved,” he further said.
“The same circle have access all the way to some high-level gov officials, who have influence over the cricket board and management. Some blatantly admitted to the board that they were not performing as they were supposed to during world cup because of my captaincy,” Naib tweeted.
