An unbroken 201-run stand between Tom Latham and Devon Conway put New Zealand on top in the second Test match, in Christchurch. Tom Latham struck his 12th Test century, while Devon Conway is just a run away from his second successive hundred of the series.
The decision to bowl first on a lush green surface did not bode well for Bangladesh. They managed just one wicket after a day's toil. Ebadot proved to be the most expensive bowler, going over five an over.
Will Young and Latham negated the opening spell comfortably, as both Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam struggled to find line or length. Ebadot managed to induce a thick outside edge off Young, but first slip dropped the catch. An overthrow resulted in seven runs off that ball.
Young was finally dismissed on 54 by Shoriful, but Conway, the new man, hit Mehidy Hasan Miraz for a four and a six early in the innings.
Latham, too, upped his ante after reaching his 12th Test century. A ball after he reached 150, he survived a caught-behind scare when Miraz thought he had found an outside edge off his bat. Bangladesh ended up losing a review.
Conway moved to 99 with a single on the second ball off the last over, and Latham played out the last four balls before stumps.
Brief Scores: New Zealand 349/1 (Tom Latham 186; Shoriful Islam 1-50) vs Bangladesh.
