An unbeaten 119 from Amelia Kerr in the second ODI helped New Zealand take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series against India. New Zealand chased down 271 with an over in hand.

Suzie Bates (16) and Sophie Devine (33) got New Zealand off to a breezy start, hitting six fours in the first four overs. They added 35 for the opening stand before Bates fell to Deepti Sharma.

Rajeshwari Gayakwad then induced an outside edge off Devine that was brilliantly caught by Yastika Bhatia at second slip. Six balls later, Sharma got Amy Satterthwaite (0) to reduce New Zealand to 55/3.

With Satterthwaite, Devine, and Bates already in the pavilion, it looked like India will easily level the series. But Amelia and Maddy Green then played over 24 overs and added 128 runs to bring their side back in the game.

Green scored 52 in 61 balls before getting out to Poonam Yadav. At this stage New Zealand were at 183/4, needing 88 runs in 96 balls.

Amelia nailed a sweep through mid-wicket to reach her century in the 46th over. With 14 needed off the last 12 balls, the Kerr sisters, Amelia and Jess, did the job with an over to spare.

Earlier, S. Meghana and Shafali Verma added 61 for the opening stand for India before Rosemary Mair claimed Verma. Meghana was dropped in the 19th over by Brooke Halliday, but could not make the most of it. Two over later she gave away an easy return catch to Amelia for 49.

It was an eventful day for Amelia in the field as well, where she grabbed four catches.

With India needing another partnership, Mithali Raj and Richa Ghosh stepped up, adding 108 for the fifth wicket. Raj took 81 balls for her unbeaten 66, but was unable to shift gears in the death overs. Ghosh, meanwhile, struck six fours and a six in her 64-ball 65.

Brief scores: India 270/6 in 50 overs (Mithali Raj 66*; Sophie Devine 2-42) lost to New Zealand 273/7 in 49 overs (Amelia Kerr 119; Deepti Sharma 4-52) by 3 wickets with 6 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Amelia Kerr.
