India’s Team administrative manager, Sunil Subramanian, is allegedly set to lose his job after being reported by the Indian High Commission officials for supposed misbehavior during India’s ongoing tour of West Indies.
A former coach of Ravichandran Ashwin, Subramanian was on a 45-day extension as India’s team manager. It is understood that the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) has decided to consider him for a further extension. This effectively rules him out of contention to attend the next round of interviews.
It is alleged that Subramanian misbehaved with the senior officials of the Indian High Commission based in Guyana and Trinidad.
The alleged incident happened during an advertisement shoot for the government back home. Supposedly, BCCI communicated to the High Commission that Subramanian was the point of contact in this regard.
“As was the directives, Subramaniam never cooperated with the senior officials. Instead, we have been told that his reply was rude and unacceptable. ‘Don’t flood me with messages’ was how he replied to the govt officials who were only carrying out the govt’s directive,” a senior BCCI official narrated the incident on Tuesday.
It is understood that BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and his team got in touch with the officials to mitigate the issue. The shoot was delayed owing to these reasons but was later shot with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in Port of Spain.
This time around the manager’s position was advertised when usually a manager was appointed on a tour by tour basis. It is unclear if Subramaniam would be asked to pass on manager duties to the logistics manager Hrishikesh Upadhyay or if he will be allowed to carry on his responsibility till the end of tour next month.
