New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson is eager to be selected in the forthcoming 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions after an absence of a year. He hopes to capitalise on a strong showing in India to return to the national squad for the busy season the following year.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore paid Rs 15 crore for Jamieson in the 2021 auctions, the fourth-highest bid in IPL history and the biggest bid for a New Zealand player. Jamieson is recovering from a back ailment. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old had trouble covering the cost after appearing in just nine of RCB's 15 games.

As 24 New Zealand cricketers put themselves up for auction and star players like Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, and Lockie Ferguson represented their respective IPL franchises, the tall quick chose to forego playing in the 2022 IPL in order to spend more time with his family and be fresh for his duties as a New Zealand representative.

According to a story on stuff.com.nz, Jamieson wants to be well enough to play for the Black Caps before the IPL.

Due to his ongoing back ailment, Jamieson won't be a part of the New Zealand team for the two Tests and three ODIs against Pakistan that begin later this month. Jamieson will undoubtedly miss the January T20I series against India as well.

The only games Jamieson will play in the meantime will be in the home T20 Super Smash competition. New Zealand is also scheduled to play a two-Test series against England, but it is uncertain whether Jamieson will be match-fit for that.

The most likely and obvious aim for him appears to be Sri Lanka's tour of New Zealand in March, which includes two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.

Before suffering a back injury during the second Test against England in Nottingham in June 2022, Jamieson had taken 72 Test wickets in just 16 games. He has only recently returned to the cricket field after a protracted recovery period. Jamieson has recently played a few matches in the Canterbury County premier club competition.

Ten New Zealand players, including the 27-year-old, will be up for auction during the IPL auction on December 23 in Kochi.

When it comes to the auction pool, Jamieson will be competing against Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, Michael Bracewell, Matt Henry, Ish Sodhi, Scott Kuggeleijn, Kane Williamson, Milne, and Neesham. Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, Finn Allen, and Glenn Phillips are the seven Black Caps players whose respective teams have decided to keep them.
