In a thrilling conclusion to the league stage of the Pakistan Super League, Peshawar Zalmi trumped Lahore Qalandars in the Super Over. The Zalmi will now face Islamabad United in the Eliminator, while the Qalandars will take on Multan Sultans for a place in the final.
Shaheen Shah Afridi struck a six off the last ball to level the scores, but failed to to defend five in the Super Over. Shoaib Malik scored successive boundaries off the first two balls to help Zalmi win the game.
Earlier, Malik scored 32 in 28 balls to help Zalmi reach 158/7. Haider Ali (25) and Hazratullah Zazai (22) were the other batters to score more than 20. Fawad Ahmed (2-26) was the pick of the bowlers.
Malik then struck with the first ball of the Qalandars innings, getting Fakhar Zaman caught behind. Mohammad Hafeez held the fort with a 44-ball 49, but there was no other substantial contributions until Afridi. With 25 needed in the last over, Afridi struck three sixes and a four to extend the game to Super Over.
