Pakistan beats Bangladesh by 37 runs in the first T20 International, with Salman Agha's 56 and Hasan Ali's five-wicket haul leading the way.

On Wednesday evening, Pakistan secured a vital victory against Bangladesh in the opening T20 International match at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The home side emerged triumphant, winning by 37 runs, thanks to a remarkable performance by their skipper, Salman Agha, and a stellar bowling display from Hasan Ali.

Salman Agha achieved a career-best score of 56 runs off just 34 deliveries. His striking performance included eight boundaries and one six, propelling Pakistan to a total of 201 runs for the loss of seven wickets. This impressive score ultimately set a challenging target for the visiting team. Key contributions also came from Hasan Nawaz, who played a crucial innings of 44 runs off 22 balls, hitting four sixes. Together, Agha and Nawaz helped Pakistan recover from a precarious situation, boosting their total in the latter stages of the innings.

Despite slumping to 5 runs for 2 wickets early in their innings, with both openers Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman dismissed for minimal contributions, Agha steadied the ship. He formed two significant partnerships, first adding 48 runs alongside Mohammad Haris and then a further 65 runs with his fellow all-rounder, Nawaz. The partnership between Agha and Nawaz was particularly instrumental in the team’s drive to surpass the 200-run mark.

In response, Bangladesh faced challenges as they sought to chase down Pakistan's total. All-rounder Shadab Khan played a pivotal role in stymying their efforts by claiming the key wicket of Litton Das, who had scored 48 runs off 30 balls. Litton's innings appeared to be the backbone of Bangladesh's chase, particularly during a 63-run third-wicket partnership with Towhid Hridoy, who contributed 17 runs before succumbing to pressure.

Hasan Ali delivered a standout performance with the ball, claiming his first five-wicket haul in T20 internationals by taking 5 wickets for 30 runs in just 3.2 overs. He played a decisive role in dismantling the Bangladesh batting lineup, including dismissing Jaker Ali, who had scored a quick 36 runs from 21 balls, and later taking the wickets of Tanzim Hasan and Shoriful Islam for minimal scores. Hasan's effort was particularly notable as he made a significant comeback to international cricket after a year-long absence due to injury.

The Bangladesh batsmen struggled to build partnerships after the initial resistance provided by Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy, with the team ultimately folding for 164 runs in 19.2 overs. The combined efforts of Pakistan’s bowling attack ensured that Bangladesh could not capitalize on the promising start provided by their top order.

In summary, the victory resulted in Pakistan taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 International series, showcasing their depth in both batting and bowling. The remaining matches of the series are scheduled to take place on Friday and Sunday, also in Lahore. With Pakistan's momentum from this game, anticipation builds for the subsequent encounters as they aim to maintain their lead and secure the series.
