For the second time in this series, Usman Khawaja missed out on a century by the barest of margins. However, his 138-run stand with Steven Smith helped Australia recover after early setbacks in the third Test match against Pakistan, in Lahore. Khawaja made 91 and Smith 59 as Australia finished Day 1 on 232/5.

Shaheen Shah Afridi struck twice in three balls in the third over to reduce Australia to 8/2. Pakistan then had to wait for over 50 overs for another scalp, which came when Smith was dismissed by Naseem Shah.

The pitch, as per the theme of the series so far, is quite slow with variable bounce. However, batting has not been easy under the scorching sun. Khawaja, by his own admission, felt horrible out in the middle, and had to take medications in between to continue batting.

Pakistan, more used to the conditions than Australia, will be content with their performance on Day 1. With half the Australian side back in the pavilion, Pakistan will now aim to wrap up this innings quickly. Early wickets on Day 2 will be key.

Fantasy Tips

  • Naseem and Afridi will be crucial for Pakistan in the morning session. Both bowled quite well on Day 1.
  • Among batters, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam are must-haves for your team.
