Having clawed one back in the series, Pakistan had a chance to square the series in the fourth ODI, in Ahmedabad.
Bad weather meant that the match was reduced to 48 overs a side. When play did eventually get underway, India batted, having won the toss. Sachin Tendulkar produced another masterclass, making 129 from 130 balls with 2 sixes and 12 fours. He put on 65 for the first wicket with Virender Sehwag (29) and 129 with M.S. Dhoni, who struck a six and six fours in his 47.
Tendulkar and his captain Sourav Ganguly then added 48, before both were out in quick succession, first Ganguly (18), then Tendulkar. Rahul Dravid produced a brief cameo before Yuvraj Singh provided late impetus to the innings with an unbeaten 35, helping India reach 315/6. Shoaib Malik was the most successive of the Pakistan bowlers, with 3-67.
Pakistan then judged their run chase to perfection. Shahid Afridi gave them a fast start with a 23-ball 40, including two sixes, while Salman Butt was content to play a supporting role. When Butt fell for 48, Abdul Razzaq and Malik kept the scoreboard moving along before Razzaq fell for 44.
That brought captain Inzamam-ul-Haq to the crease, and he assumed the responsibility of guiding his side home. He added 70 for the fourth wicket with Malik (65), and batted with the middle and lower order to knock off the remaining runs.
In the end, Pakistan reached their target of the last ball of the innings, when Inzamam cut Tendulkar for four. He was unbeaten on 65, scored off as many balls, to be named Player of the Match.
Pakistan won by three wickets to square the series.
