Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief executive Wasim Khan has confirmed the resumption of the remainder of Pakistan Super League 2021 matches after getting requisite exemptions from the United Arab Emirates government.
Earlier, reports arrived that the concerned authority in the UAE has asked the PCB to vaccinate the entire crew of the PSL 2021 in order to conduct the tournament. Further, travel restrictions barred the production crew based out of India to fly to the UAE.
However, PCB managed to obtain the pending approvals in less than 24 hours. Wasim Khan was elated over the development, and he will now preside the meeting with all six franchises to discuss the schedules, logistic issues and departure plans.
The franchises will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine of seven days, and no more than two will be allowed to stay in a single hotel. Further, the broadcasting personnel will arrive in a chartered plane, and are not supposed to share the hotel with any franchise.
‘We are delighted with this development as the remaining hurdles in the staging of the remaining PSL matches in Abu Dhabi have been overcome and all systems are now good to go,’ stated Khan.
The PSL 2021 was suspended two weeks after its resumption after a spate of positive COVID-19 cases. Babar Azam’s Karachi Kings are at the top of the points table, followed by Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars. Overall, twenty matches will be played in a strict bio-secure bubble in the UAE.
