The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to conduct fitness tests for nearly 200 players coming under their ranks in a rather unique way. The PCB will conduct the tests using video links. The drills include include push-ups, sprints, burpees, the famous ‘Yo-Yo’ test and several other routine fitness drills.
The tests are a way for Pakistan to ensure that the contracted players remain in peak fitness whem sporting action does resume after the COVID-19 pandemic. The tests will be conducted via video links on April 20 and 21 according to an ‘ESPNCricinfo’ report.
Cricket in Pakistan and globally have been on a standstill even since the novel coronavirus became widespread. The death tally currently stands at 88,000. No International cricket or any franchise cricket has happened since mid-March. The virtual test will give the players something to work on to maintain their fitness standards as per PCB requirements.
PCB’s coach cum chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq and team trainer Yasir Malik, sent out letters to the players to inform them about the drill.
“With all the limitations and lack of resources at the moment, we have chalked out this new fitness battery with everyone given an equal opportunity,” the letter reads.
“You have been informed well before time to make sure you are mentally and physically ready for it. All the tests will be carried out on video link by your team’s trainers.
“To maintain your fitness level you need to be disciplined and keep working hard.”
