On Thursday Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a letter to former Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The legendary batsman announced retirement from international cricket via an Instagram post on August 15. Since then the social media has been flooded with tribute for Mahnedra Singh Dhoni. On Thursday even the PM of the country joined the mass to thank the ace cricketer.
Remembering Dhoni’s journey, Modi said, “Your names will go down in history as being one of the world’s batting greats, among the greatest cricketing captains and certainly one of the best wicket-keepers the game has seen.” Dhoni, coming from Ranchi in no time became one of the biggest names of Indian cricketer.
Not just as a player but as a captain he took Indian cricket to new heights. One of most successful Indian captains of all-time, Mahendra Singh Dhoni remains the only Indian skipper to have won all three major ICC trophies — the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
“Rising from humble beginnings in a small town, you burst onto the national scene, made a name for yourself and most importantly made India proud,” Prime Minister acknowledged. “You have been one of the important illustrations of the spirit of New India, where family name does not make young people’s destiny but they make their own names and their destinies.”
While he wished Dhoni for future endeavours, he praised the famous calmness and composure of Dhoni which makes ‘Mahi’ one of a kind. “No matter what hairstyle you sported, your calm head remained the same in victory or defeat…”
Mahendra Singh Dhoni posted this letter on his Twitter and wrote,”An Artist,Soldier and Sportsperson what they crave for is appreciation, that their hard work and sacrifice is getting noticed and appreciated by everyone.thanks PM @narendramodi for your appreciation and good wishes.”
