Karnataka and Kolkata Knight Riders speedster Prasidh Krishna has returned positive for COVID-19, a day after reaching his hometown Bengaluru from the biobubble in Ahmedabad. He is the fourth KKR player to have contracted the virus, after Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier and Tim Seifert.
Prasidh, 25, was among the four standby players chosen by India for the World Test Championship and five-match series against England. Abhimanyu Easwaran, Avesh Khan and Arzan Nagwaswalla are the other three players on standby. He will have to test negative before departing for England.
‘It will be subject to fitness clearance like Wriddhiman Saha, who too had tested positive while being in the IPL bubble,’ confirmed a BCCI source.
Prasidh Krishna made his ODI debut earlier this year against England. He picked up 4-54 in that game, the best figures by an Indian on ODI debut. He currently has six wickets in three matches.
Meanwhile, Seifert is undergoing a mandatory quarantine in Ahmedabad and will fly to New Zealand after recovery.
Earlier, the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore was rescheduled after Varun and Warrier were tested positive. Delhi Capitals’ Amit Mishra and Sunrisers Hyderabad's Wriddhiman Saha too tested positive on the next day, forcing BCCI to postpone the IPL 2021 indefinitely.
Prasidh’s nine First-Class matches have fetched him 34 wickets at an excellent 20.26. Along with Pat Cummins, he led the pace attack for the KKR in IPL 2021, played all seven matches and picked up eight wickets.
