Prithvi Shaw, Mumbai's daring opener, scored a stunning 134 off 61 balls for Mumbai against Assam on Friday in an Elite Group A match of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot.
When Mumbai was forced to bat first, Shaw, who was serving as captain in the absence of veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane, smashed 13 fours and nine sixes in his innings to help Mumbai record 230/3 in their 20 overs.
Assam was knocked out for 169 in 19.3 overs, and Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal (42) shared a 114-run opening stand for the second wicket as Mumbai triumphed by 61 runs. Shaw's 113-point fine for West Zone against Northeast Zone in the Duleep Trophy opener marked the start of the domestic season for 2022–23.
Following that, he defeated Central Zone in the semifinals with knocks of 60 and 142. Shaw scored a series-clinching 48-ball 77 for India A in their one-day match in Chennai against New Zealand A.
Shaw expressed his dissatisfaction at missing India's 2-1 ODI series victory against South Africa earlier this month.
"I felt let down. I am working extremely hard and scoring runs, but I never have the chance. They (the national selectors) will play me once they determine that I am prepared. I'll make the most of any opportunity I get, whether it's with India 'A' or another squad, and maintain a high level of fitness "Mid-day cited Shaw as having said.
Shaw last represented India on the white-ball tour to Sri Lanka in July of last year, when he made his Test debut against the West Indies and hit a century. Shaw only managed to score 283 runs in 10 innings for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022, including two fifty-plus scores. Shaw also missed four games toward the conclusion of the season due to typhoid.
In addition to making certain modifications in his off-field lifestyle, he also disclosed that he had lost seven to eight kilogrammes in the previous few months.
"I performed a lot of fitness work but did not focus on other aspects of my hitting. After the last IPL, I worked on losing weight and did so by seven to eight kg. I didn't eat any desserts or drink any cold beverages, but I did spend a lot of time in the gym and run a lot. Chinese food is no longer on my menu in any way."
Shaw has previously conquered Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram with 29 and an undefeated 55 respectively in the competition.
