Islamabad United beat Peshawar Zalmi by five wickets in Eliminator 1 of Pakistan Super League 2022 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The United chased 170 in 19.3 overs, and will now face Lahore Qalandars for a place in the final.
With 10 needed off the last over, Benny Howell trapped Azam Khan leg-before on the first ball. However, Liam Dawson hit a six and a four off the next two balls to win the game for his team.
Azam (28) and Faheem Ashraf (19) had added 41 in just over four overs to keep the asking rate in control. Before that, Alex Hales set the foundation with a 49-ball 62, while Shadab Khan chipped in with 22.
Earlier, Mohammad Haris and Kamran Akmal added 30 for the opening wicket for Zalmi before the former fell to Faheem Ashraf for 12. Yasir Khan (8 in 12) struggled to get going. He departed in the eighth over.
Kamran Akmal kept the scoreboard ticking as Shoaib Malik took his time at the crease. Kamran reached his fifty with a cut off Shadab in the 12th over. An over later, Shadab got him for 58, inducing a top edge that was leapt upon by Waqas Maqsood.
Malik again stepped up with a 43-ball 55. Hussain Talat's 15-ball 28 then propelled them to 169/5. Hasan Ali (3-30) was the pick of the United bowlers.
