Lahore Qalandars beat reigning champions Multan Sultans by 42 runs to claim their maiden Pakistan Super League title. A fifty from Mohammad Hafeez and cameos from Harry Brook and David Wiese propelled the Qalandars to 180/5. In reply, the Sultans were bowled out for 138.
Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood added 36 for the first wicket for the Sultans. Then they lost five wickets in four overs to slip from 36/0 to 63/5. Rizwan (14) was bowled by Hafeez. Six balls later, Masood was run out on 19. Aamer Azmat, Rilee Rossouw, and Asif Afridi got out cheaply.
Tim David (27 in 17 balls) and Khushdil Shah (32 in 23) tried to revive the chase with their 51-run stand before David fell to Shaheen Shah Afridi (3-30). They were bowled out in 19.3 overs.
Earlier, Asif Afridi and David Willey kept things in the Powerplay for the Qalandars. Fakhar Zaman, the leading run-getter of the league, fell while trying to slog over deep mid wicket off Asif Afridi. An over later, Willey had Zeeshan Ashraf caught behind. Abdullah Shafique's dismissal reduced the Sultans to 25/3 in 4.2 overs.
Hafeez (69) and Kamran Ghulam then added 54 for the fourth wicket. Hafeez did the bulk of scoring, but Ghulam got stuck and took 20 balls for his 15 before falling prey to Asif Afridi. Brook then launched a four and two sixes in the 17th over, off Rumman Raees. In the last two overs, Brook (41 in 22 balls) and David Wiese (28 in 8) struck four sixes and two fours to take the Qalandars to 180/5.
