K.L. Rahul and Axar Patel will miss the upcoming three-match T20I series versus West Indies, starting from 16 February in Kolkata. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda have been brought in as replacements.
Rahul sustained a hamstring injury while fielding in the second ODI against West Indies, and was replaced by Shreyas Iyer in the next game. Axar, meanwhile, is in the "final stage of his rehabilitation" after having recovered from Covid-19.
Gaikwad is currently with the Indian squad, but has not got an opportunity to feature in the playing XI since playing two ODIs against Sri Lanka last year.
Hooda scored 26* and 29 in the first two ODIs against West Indies and took a wicket. However, he did not play the last game of the series as the team wanted to try out a different combination.
India's updated T20I squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Hooda.
