Bengal 577/5 (Sudip Gharami 186, Anustup Majumdar 117; Sushant Mishra 2-122) vs Jharkhand.
Bengal piled further misery on Jharkhand on Day 2 of the first quarter-final of the 2021/22 Ranji Trophy. Having batted all of Day 1 to score 310/1, they played out the second day as well, to finish on 577/5. A chunk of this mammoth score was built on the 243-run second-wicket stand between Sudip Gharami (186, his maiden First-class hundred) and Anustup Majumdar. Abhishek Raman, who had retired hurt on Day 1, returned after the partnership broke, and eventually scored 61, while Abhishek Porel got 68. Manoj Tiwary (54*) is still out there, and will look to take Bengal past 700.
Mumbai 647/8 decl. (Suved Parkar 252, Sarfaraz Khan 153; Deepak Dhapola 3-89) lead Uttarakhand 39/2 (Kamal Singh 27*; Mohit Avasthi 1-12) by 608 runs.
A 267-run third-wicket partnership between Suved Parkar (252) and Sarfaraz Ahmed (153) helped Mumbai declare on 647/8 against Uttarakhand. Parkar's 252 is now the fifth-highest score by a First-class debutant, while Sarfaraz took his First-class average beyond the 80-mark. Shams Mulani made a quick 59 as well, while Deepak Dhapola (3-89) could not add to wickets haul from Day 1. Left to bat out 11 overs, Uttarakhand finished on 39/2 as Tushar Deshpande and Mohit Avasthi picked up a wicket apiece.
Karnataka 253 (Ravikumar Samarth 57; Saurabh Kumar 4-73) and 100/8 (Mayank Agarwal 22; Saurabh Kumar 3-32) lead Uttar Pradesh 155 (Priyam Garg 39; Ronit More 3-47) by 198 runs.
Karnataka were 67/2 in the second innings before they collapsed against Saurabh Kumar (3-32) to finish Day 2 – a topsy-turvy day's play – on 100/8. Their lead of 198 may turn out to be decisive in a low-scoring match. Shreyas Gopal (56*) had helped them reach 253 in the morning. They then reduced Uttar Pradesh to 34/3 and even 111/9 before Shivam Mavi (32*) and Ankit Rajpoot (18) added 44 in seven overs. All five Karnataka bowlers picked up at least one wicket.
Punjab 219 (Abhishek Sharma 47; Anmolpreet Singh 47; Anubhav Agarwal 3-36) trail Madhya Pradesh 238/2 (Shubham Sharma 102*; Mayank Markande 2-70) by 19 runs.
Resuming on 5/0, Madhya Pradesh batted through Day 2 to finish on 238/2. They now lead by 19 runs with eight wickets in hand, and will want to stretch that lead as much as possible. The bulk of their runs was scored by Himanshu Mantri (89) and Shubham Sharma (102*), who added 120 for the second wicket. Mayank Markande (2-70) has taken both wickets for Punjab so far.
