The 2021/22 edition of the Ranji Trophy has been postponed indefinitely amidst a rise in COVID-19 cases. It was originally scheduled to begin on 13 January.
On Monday, 3 December, Mumbai's Shivam Dube tested positive for COVID-19. Further, as many as six players and a support staff of the Bengal team also contracted the virus.
Col C K Nayudu Trophy & Senior Women’s T20 League have also been postponed. The Women's T20 League was slated to begin next month.
The Ranji Trophy & Col C K Nayudu Trophy were scheduled to begin this month while the Senior Women’s T20 League was scheduled to commence in February.
'BCCI does not want to compromise the safety of the players, support staff, match officials and other participants involved and hence, has decided to put the three tournaments on hold till further notice,' read a statement from the BCCI.
As the COVID-19 cases surge across the nation, the board will assess the situation before starting these tournaments.
