Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is one of the best fielders in world cricket at the moment. There is hardly anyone who would deny the fact. While many pundits of the game have come out in praise of Jadeja’s fielding abilities from time to time, former India batsman Gautam Gambhir is the latest to join that list.
“I think, in world cricket, there is no better fielder than Jadeja, an overall fielder. Maybe he doesn’t field at slip and gully, but no one is better than him in throwing,” Gautam Gambhir said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.
“No one covers the outfield like him. Put him at point or cover, you can get him to field anywhere. No one has a safer pair of hands than him. Ravindra Jadeja, probably is the best fielder in world cricket,” he added.
Some of Jadeja’s recent fielding exploits include his catch to dismiss Neil Wagner in the second Test against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval earlier this year. His catch to dismiss Jason Roy during India’s match against England in the World Cup last year is also a memorable one.
Gambhir is not the only one who has come out in high praise for Jadeja. Former South Africa player Jonty Rhodes, who was himself known for his fielding abilities during his playing days, has been in awe of Jadeja as well.
“Jaddu (Jadeja) has taken some fantastic catches. The key is he is very committed. He is very good at anticipating the ball also,” Rhodes had told Suresh Raina during an Instagram Live chat last month.
