In a one-sided match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) delivered a crushing victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR) with a 112-run margin in an IPL 2023 game.
The match saw RCB’s dominating bowling display that left RR stunned and struggling with only two batsmen managing to reach double figures. The team from Bangalore got off to a solid start as skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell's half-centuries, along with Anuj Rawat's unbeaten 29 off 11 balls, led RCB to a competitive total of 171/5 in 20 overs.
RCB's bowlers then turned up the heat, with Wayne Parnell picking up three wickets and Michael Bracewell and Mohammad Siraj bowling extremely well. RCB bundled out the Rajasthan team for only 59 runs, the third-lowest innings total in the history of the tournament.
RR's run chase started in disastrous fashion as they lost three quick wickets in the first two overs, with Siraj, Parnell, and Bracewell all contributing to the early damage. The hosts produced an abysmal show with the bat as they were five down for the score of 28 at the end of the powerplay.
The only bright spot in RR's innings was Shimron Hetmyer's cameo, as he smashed three back-to-back maximums off Karn Sharma. However, he failed to carry on the momentum and was dismissed by Maxwell in the 10th over.
Karn Sharma then took two wickets in the next over, cleaning up Adam Zampa on a googly and dismissing K.M. Asif, as RCB secured a massive 112-run win.
The match was an impressive display of RCB's all-round performance, with the team dominating both with the bat and ball. The result also saw RCB move up the table and reaffirm their status as one of the top contenders for the IPL 2023 title.
