Zimbabwe skipper Hamilton Masakadza played his last international game for the country against Afghanistan on Friday. And he bowed out on a high scoring 71 runs off just 42 deliveries, which included four fours and five sixes, in Zimbabwe’s 7-wicket victory over the Afghan nation. On his way to his knock, Masakadza and Zimbabwe broke a number of significant records. Let’s have a look at them.
Masakadza’s 71 is now the highest score by any player in their last T20I game.
His career for Zimbabwe spanned a total of 18 years and 55 days and it happens to be the longest career for any player to represent this country.
This win was also Zimbabwe’s first in nine T20I outings against Afghanistan. The Asian side had beaten the African nation in all of the previous eight matches.
Zimbabwe’s seven-wicket victory also ended Afghanistan’s 12-match win streak in T20Is. The Afghans last tasted defeat in this format against West Indies back in 2017.
This loss also ended Afghanistan’s 21-game win streak in T20Is in Asia. England were the last to beat them in Asia in 2016.
Masakadza now retired as Zimbabwe’s highest run-getter in the format with 1662 runs in 66 innings at an average of 25.96. These runs included 11 scores of fifty or more as well.
